The fire brigade recently tried out a roof fire in a remote settlement in the Waldviertel. A moment later the flames really shot up there!
There is hardly a case that better illustrates how important the training of specific scenarios is for the fire service than the one in Hoheneich in the district of Gmünd. In the summer of 1,400 souls, a rafter fire on the house mountain was simulated as part of a subsection exercise. The special thing: the area is very remote, making the supply of fire extinguishing water very problematic.
80 helpers in action
At that time, exactly 150 meters away from the training object, a real fire was raging on Thursday. About 80 Florianis were needed – the majority from Wehren, who were training for the emergency at the time. The summer’s findings brought a huge tactical advantage to firefighting. Although the garage, boiler room and rafter were robbed by the flames, they were prevented from spreading to the living quarters.
No one was injured during the operation and the residents were out of the house at the time of the fire. The cause is still unclear.
