Eight years in prison – man raped 11-year-old in France

Date:

A man in France has now been sentenced to eight years in prison for raping an 11-year-old girl. The case was already played in 2017. At the time, however, the perpetrator was only charged with sexual assault.

This led to major protests in the country. Five years later, a court in Pontoise near Paris ruled otherwise. “The court assumes that the sexual act took place because of moral pressure and because of the surprise effect,” the court president said on Friday. At eleven years and ten months, one is not yet mature enough to agree to a sexual relationship.

In 2017, the then 28-year-old perpetrator stated that it was consensual sex. Since the eleven-year-old had offered no resistance, she agreed. The girl, on the other hand, stated that she was afraid not to fight back. She had met the man in a park after school. The rape eventually took place at his home. He would not have used physical violence.

consciousness changed
After the first court declared itself incompetent and asked for further investigation, a debate erupted in France. Since 2021, there has been a law according to which sex with children under 15 is generally not consensual. “This case is important because it has changed the consciousness of society,” said Armelle Le Bigot-Macaux. She is president of an association against child prostitution, who was a co-plaintiff.

The 33-year-old man showed no emotion when he was sentenced to eight years in prison on Friday.
