Frank James, 63, had warned authorities about threats against the mayor of New York. Now the whole city is looking for him. The FBI had classified the man as “harmless” – a serious mistake.
According to an insider, federal police had already attacked James in New Mexico in 2019 because of possible terrorist threats and therefore questioned him several times, but decided that the man posed no danger.
It is unclear why he panicked and shot himself in a subway. On Tuesday 23 people were injured, luckily no one was killed. The 63-year-old revealed online that he has a mental illness and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. That’s why he was committed to a New Jersey mental hospital—but he regretted it.
James blames New York Mayor Eric Adams: “It got a lot worse after that. Mr. Mayor, I’m a victim of your mental health program. I’m 63, full of hate, full of anger, and full of bitterness.”
“I used to be a nice person”
According to James, the clinic was a “place of violence”, but not physical violence. “It’s the kind of violence that kids experience in elementary school and later pick up a gun and shoot everyone because of it. I used to be a nice person who wanted to help everyone. But now I want to kill everyone I see.”
James also criticized Mayor Adams for not doing enough to tackle homelessness. The 63-year-old had recently lived in a moving truck himself and had driven it from New Mexico to New York. This vehicle was found near the crime scene and there was still no trace of the alleged shooter on Wednesday.
$50,000 reward offered
A $50,000 reward has been offered for his arrest. Police have increased security around Mayor Adams, who is in quarantine.
