Activists in Paris: “FIFA kills”

A group of activists has hung a banner with the text FIFA deadly. World Cup 2022: 6,500 dead’ for short minutes on the Pont des Arts, one of the most famous bridges over the River Seine in Paris, in protest at the thousands of guest workers who died in Qatar to build the World Cup.

The authorship of this short-lived protest action corresponds to the French collective “Les Dégommeuses”, which presents itself as a football team composed mainly of lesbians and transgender people whose aim is to combat discrimination.

The few minutes that the banner was visible – 16 meters long and 4 meters high – attracted the attention of some passers-by and tourists. The activists also lit red and green torches.

In addition, the groups “Le bruit qui court”, “Carton rouge Qatar” and “Fridays for future” have approached the Place de la République in Paris and climbed to dress the image of women that symbolizes the French Republic. they have dressed in a t-shirt with the motto “Qatar is Full of Death”.

Around the statue, several punctured footballs were meant to embody the lives lost in the construction of Qatar’s World Cup facilities.

Also in Germany The boycott movement against the World Cup has gained momentum. More than half of Germans say they will not watch the matches and many bars have decided not to broadcast the match as a sign of denunciation of human rights abuses in the country hosting the World Cup.
