In Vienna’s underground car park, the 13-year-old hit his own mother while parking

Fatal confusion with dramatic consequences: A 45-year-old apparently let her son park in an underground parking garage in Vienna on Thursday afternoon. The only 13-year-old switched the accelerator and brake pedals, first hit his mother with the vehicle and then rammed into a parked car.

The rescue operation took place in the Liesing district around 5 p.m. According to the Viennese professional rescue service, the helpers found the 45-year-old lying on the ground. The woman was in severe pain and had bruises all over her body. The reason for her injuries: She had been hit by her own car, which had apparently been driven by her 13-year-old son.

“The teenager may have confused the accelerator pedal with the brake pedal when parking and hit his own mother. The car then collided with a parked vehicle,” the professional rescue service said via a broadcast. The 13-year-old suffered bruises and head injuries in the accident.

Mother and son were taken to hospital after first aid. The 45-year-old was taken to hospital and her son was taken to the trauma room. The police had filed a report of bodily injury due to negligence, police said.
