A symbolic handover of keys in the police barracks in Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria), the headquarters of the EKO Cobra. His boss, Bernhard Treibenreif, took delivery of three new emergency vehicles on Monday.
The 12-ton monsters are armored transporters of the “Survivor I” type, which are mainly used in so-called high-level operations – rampages, for example. The total cost amounted to no less than 2.5 million euros and was covered from the safety budget.
“Important step for further development”
In total, Cobra and the special unit WEGA in Vienna have seven such vehicles. One was specially equipped for recovering the wounded. “The Cobra task force has enjoyed an excellent reputation for decades and the highest worldwide recognition,” emphasized Interior Minister Gerhard Karner at the handover, “these new special vehicles are an important step in the further development of this special unit to be able to to deal with operational situations in a very professional manner.”
