While more and more climate protectors worldwide are ending their blockade actions, local eco-rebels are not deterred and want to shut down the whole of Vienna on Monday.
Extinction Rebellion (XR) militants formally apologized to the man who recently begged roadblocks in Bristol, England to let him through. The Briton wanted to visit his dying father in hospital – and arrived too late because the climate protesters persisted.
British eco-activists suspend
As a belated regret and realization that they had brought chaos to so many people’s lives, the British eco-demonstrators, for example, will now suspend these types of protests for a year.
The change in tactics: There should be large demonstrations with as many participants as possible, but no more disruptive blockades. The powerful “XR” branches in Australia and New Zealand promptly declared that they would also waive this and prevent ordinary citizens from coming to work or even causing emergencies.
“Of course we will continue”
These kinds of insights are currently rolling off the local street stickers. On the contrary: “last generation” activist Florian Wagner announced a massive wave of protests at the “Krone” in Vienna on Monday: “Of course we will continue. Unfortunately, we have no other choice.” The group urges “peaceful and non-violent resistance to protect all our livelihoods”.
There are no words of regret for the hardships into which tens of thousands of ordinary citizens are thrown. The enormous emissions of hundreds of cars stuck in traffic are accepted.
Mikl-Leitner is now calling for tougher sentences
Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner of Lower Austria probably speaks to many commuters from the soul. Climate protection is everyone’s business. However, that does not justify any hindrance to rescue workers. The ÖVP politician is calling for a sharp increase in sentences, because the current small sentences do not discourage endangering human lives.
