Customer Injured – Lost truck tire hits gas station

Date:

An unusual, shocking incident took place at a rest area on the A1 near Salzburg on Monday. A truck supposedly lost one of its tires while driving. This became independent and became a destructive projectile when it crashed into the gas station shop with full force. One person was injured in the accident.

The accident happened around 11:45 am at the Kasern stop (Salzburg-North). The truck tire, which weighed about 100 kilograms, apparently had such a high speed that it easily smashed through the window of the gas station store, as photos of a reader reporter from “Krone” show. The interior was also badly damaged, with debris and broken glass scattered on the floor.

In hospital with “minor injuries”.
As if that wasn’t enough, the highly unusual accident also claimed one person injured. The Red Cross described the customer’s injuries as minor. He was taken to hospital after first aid. “My brother was there just before it happened,” reports the “Krone” reader. “He could have been injured even two minutes later if he had been standing there.”

Initially, there was no trace of the truck with missing tires or the driver. According to the police, the driver may not have even noticed the loss of the tire. Video footage that could lead to the truck’s license plate is now under review. The tire could also have been a spare wheel. The Salzburg fire brigade took over the clean-up work.
