An avalanche on the Drusenfluh in the Montafon in Vorarlberg grabbed 14 ski tourers on Saturday and carried them away at about 2200 meters above sea level. 28 people from the mountain rescue and alpine police were on duty. All buried people could be saved.
According to the police, the tourers were all equipped with complete emergency equipment, some even with an avalanche airbag. Three suffered minor injuries, the others escaped unhurt. The avalanche had broken loose under the so-called Öfapass.
Group could be saved from snow masses
At that time, avalanche warning level 3, light snowfall, fog and poor visibility prevailed. Ten tourers were only partially buried and were able to free themselves. Another four completely buried people were immediately located by the rest of the group and rescued from the snow masses. The three injured sought medical attention.
Due to the weather, the area could not be reached by helicopter.
