Out of glee and carelessness, two 15-year-olds played cat and mouse on a moped in Steyr with the police: they drove away from the officers again and again – until the duo crashed their moped into a parked car and ended up in hospital.
At 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, a police patrol from Steyr became aware of a motorcycle handlebar carrying a passenger. Several attempts to stop were ignored by the driver. During the prosecution, the driver committed several administrative offenses. The generally very dangerous driving style extended over multiple intersections and public roads.
Passenger covered license plate with his hand
During the chase, the co-driver covered the license plate of the moped with his hand and only held the motor vehicle with one hand. During the night drive, several uninvolved road users were put in great danger.
Crashed into parked car
Eventually there was a collision between the moped and a parked car on Franz-Schuhmeier-Straße, in which the driver and his passenger fell. As a result of the fall, the handlebars of the moped came to a standstill and the passenger tried to flee via the playground there. A police officer immediately followed the fugitive on foot and was able to catch up with him after a few meters.
Police officer provided first aid
Meanwhile, the second officer provided first aid to the moped rider. The rescue chain was set in motion. The motorcyclist is in possession of a valid driver’s license and the motor being driven had no obvious illegal tuning modifications. An alcohol test was negative. Furthermore, no criminal offenses could be established by the officers.
Ignored detention out of arrogance
To justify themselves, the two 15-year-old boys from the Steyr-Land district stated only that they had ignored the officials’ many attempts to stop them out of cheerfulness and carelessness. Both boys were taken to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen clinic in Steyr.
