Following alleged abuses in an outsourced subsidiary of the Vienna Medical Association, there was a raid on Monday. A seizure of electronic devices and data carriers ordered by the public prosecutor’s office was underway, a spokesman for the Vienna Medical Association confirmed on request.
This concerns a now-dismissed Chamber employee and confidant of President Johannes Steinhart, as well as one of the two directors of the medical procurement service Equip4Ordi GmbH (E4O), who also worked for the Chamber. The spokesperson emphasized that they are cooperating with the public prosecutor’s office and making all data available.
Investigation of allegations of infidelity
In mid-February, the public prosecutor’s office had already seized the suspects’ mobile phones and laptops. The two directors of E4O and the employee of the Chamber are being investigated on suspicion of breach of trust or favouritism.
In the affair, the president of the Vienna and Austrian Medical Chamber, Johannes Steinhart, came under pressure because he had previously been the head of the curia of resident physicians in the Vienna Chamber, whose subsidiary was E4O. The defendant had stated that they had acted on Steinhart’s instructions or with his approval.
Money used for parliamentary election campaign?
Recently, an advertisement also mentioned that money from E4O could have supported the chamber election campaign of the ÖVP-affiliated “Association of Austrian doctors – List Steinhart”. Steinhart has denied all allegations so far. Equip4Ordi has already been discontinued (mid-March, please note).
This has been established, among other things, because one of the directors has passed on hefty commissions of more than half a million euros to his private company. As a result of this and other machinations, the curia of the Vienna Medical Association reportedly suffered damages of more than two million euros.
