In the digital age, videos or images of blue light operations spread quickly on social media on the Internet. There are two spectacular cases of video traps currently shaking the ranks of the domestic executive.
In the sensitive case with a Chechen as ‘protagonist’, the investigation is still ongoing. As reported in Vienna, a total of nine officials have been suspended in two arrest incidents – each captured by surveillance cameras – and some sentenced to suspended prison terms for the dazzling man from the (illegal) gambling environment.
The police should not have helped women
The case of two Styrian police officers, who made headlines in 2017, is different. A woman lying on the floor in a mobile phone video in Leoben accused her of pushing her down or not helping her. The two inspectors were released for 16 months until they were acquitted in the legal proceedings. And this is exactly what the employee representatives want to get involved in.
“Of course there are a few black sheep. But how are innocent officials left out in the rain in terms of service and pay,” demands FSG union leader Hermann Greylinger in the “Krone” interview for a protective shield for wrongly accused police officers. This should come at the same time as the new Reporting Center for Police Violence.
