According to the Kremlin, Russian troops have surrounded the Ukrainian defenders in Bakhmut. It was said that they had support from the air and from the Wagnerian mercenaries.
In this way the deployment of further Ukrainian forces was prevented. A withdrawal of the “enemy units” from Bakhmut is currently not possible, representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.
The city in the east of the country has been hotly contested for months and is of symbolic importance to both parties mainly because of its duration. Bachmut is now largely destroyed and most of the inhabitants have left the town.
