A trial took place in the regional court in Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria) on Friday morning after a tragedy in a barn in Ranshofen, where cattle and pigs had been kept in a miserable manner. A 55-year-old farmer has been charged with animal cruelty. The well-known man was sentenced, among other things, to two months in prison – not definitively.
Excessive demands led to an animal tragedy in a stable in Ranshofen. In the end, 16 piglets, a calf and two pigs were dead. A 55-year-old farmer therefore had to answer to the regional court in Ried im Innkreis on Friday for animal abuse.
Calf died and emergency slaughter
The work on the farm had apparently become too much for him last year and the animals – 14 calves, four pigs, 16 piglets and two rearing sows – received too little feed and water and were in the dirty stable. In mid-September the circumstances became known and the official veterinarian also arrived.
repeat offender
One calf had already died and the sows and piglets were in such bad shape that they had to be slaughtered. The farmer risked up to two years in prison for animal cruelty. He is considered a repeat offender and was already convicted of animal cruelty in 2019. The not yet final verdict: eight months in prison, two of which were absolute.
