A missing 45-year-old was found dead on Saturday in the Ötscher area in the Mitterbach area on Lake Erlaufsee in Lower Austria. The man may have fallen while climbing the Rauher Kammes, the state police in Lower Austria said in a broadcast.
According to a broadcast on May 1, the 45-year-old has “disappeared without a trace”. During the holiday, the man left for his annual trip to the Ötscher via Rauher Kamm. A day-long search ensued. According to the police, the body was eventually discovered in the area of the Ötscher south side.
Drones are also used
According to the mountain rescue service of Lower Austria/Vienna, 80 members were involved in the large-scale search on May 7. The team was completed by ten alpine police officers and five standby unit officers, three police dogs, 21 rescue dogs and two mountain rescue dogs. Drones and an air traffic police helicopter were also deployed.
High avalanche danger
Due to the unfavorable conditions – there was a high avalanche risk in some parts of the Ötscher – the campaign was eventually temporarily suspended. After an improvement as a result of the snow melt, there was a follow-up from Saturday morning. “At around 10:30 a.m., the man was found by a search team from the mountain rescue service about 400 meters below the exit of the Rauher Kammen,” it was reported.
The 45-year-old is said to have swept away masses of snow in a fall, from which he has now been released. The recovery in the rugged and overgrown terrain was carried out in cooperation with the alpine and flight police.
