A 78-year-old man and his 55-year-old son were trapped by an overturned tractor during forestry work in Maria Lankowitz (Styria) on Wednesday afternoon. Both suffered life-threatening injuries.
At around 1 pm, a 78-year-old and his 55-year-old son, both from the Voitsberg district, were engaged in forestry work in their own forest. After cutting down and stripping a 50-foot spruce tree, they wanted to use a winch attached to the tractor to pull the log down the valley onto a forest road. The tree trunk accelerated and hit the tractor parked on the forest path, knocking it over by the force of the impact.
Father and son were trapped under the tractor and sustained life-threatening injuries. They received medical care from an emergency medical team during the rescue by the fire brigade of the municipality of Köflach and the municipality of Salla.
Both were flown away with rescue helicopter C 12 – the 55-year-old to the LKH Graz, the 78-year-old to the UKH Graz.
