Serious paragliding accident Monday afternoon in the Tyrolean town of Kössen (Kitzbühel district): Despite a lot of experience, a 52-year-old crashed his paraglider shortly after take-off and suffered serious injuries. He had to be taken to hospital.
According to the police, the German from the district of Oberberg in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is an experienced paraglider pilot. He left shortly after noon on Monday for a flight from the mountain station of the Almlift and actually wanted to land in Kössen. But it didn’t come to that. Witnesses report that the man’s glider collapsed shortly after takeoff, leaving the pilot unable to steer.
He then fell from a height of eight to ten meters to the ground, where he hit the ground hard. According to police, the man suffered serious injuries. The emergency doctor treated him on the spot, after which the 52-year-old was taken to the clinic in Traunstein, Bavaria.
