The Russian opposition leader has been in prison since June 2022. This time he faces a new trial for extremism, charged with financing and inciting extremist actions and founding an organization that violated citizens’ rights.
The Russian judiciary has today started a new trial, this time for extremism, against the imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalnywhich could be condemned to others 30 years in prison. Together with the opponent in the dock Daniel Jolodniformer technical director of the Navalni LIVE channel on YouTube, who is sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The trial will take place in Vladimir Region Prison No. 6, where Navalni has been held ever since June 2022. Navalni himself has previously denounced that the prison officials had not allowed him to familiarize himself with the material of the case, since in the punishment cell in which he was found they only one of the 196 volumes of the accusation.
According to the Mediazona portal, Navalni is accused of financing and inciting extremist actions and founding an organizationreferring to the banned anti-corruption fund (FBK), that violate citizens’ rights.
In addition, charges have been filed involving minors in dangerous actionsin reference to unauthorized opposition demonstrations.
Navalni has in his social networks the “crime war” launched in Ukraine by President Vladimir Putin, whom he accuses of sending hundreds of thousands of Russians “to the slaughterhouse”.
The court rejected November 2022 appealed by Navalni’s lawyers and confirmed the eight-year prison sentence imposed on him for fraud and contempt.
