A German (37) is said to have held a house slave in Syria and Iraq for years. The IS supporter is also accused of having her husband raped. She has now been sentenced to nine years and three months in prison.
“The starting point is the meeting of two women whose lives would not have touched under normal circumstances,” said the judge in Koblenz. The suspect was found guilty on Wednesday of, among other things, membership in a foreign terrorist organization, crimes against humanity and complicity in genocide.
Her husband took in a young Jesidin and regularly raped her. His wife made this possible and supported him. “She could and should have done something,” the judge said. The Jesidin was allegedly abused as a house slave in Iraq and Syria for three years.
Little regret and sympathy
The senate could find no indications that the suspects had distanced themselves, the judge said. But she had shown remorse and compassion “at least to some degree”. The German is an intelligent and self-confident woman who voluntarily joined IS. She was sentenced to nine years and three months in prison on Wednesday. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
