With his 62-year-old partner and his 31-year-old son, a 63-year-old was driving his SUV on a forest path in Osttirol in the municipality of Prägraten. When he got out to watch the game, the accident happened.
“The man drove between the Stürmitzalm and the Pebbellalm. At an altitude of about 1790 meters, he parked his car on a very steep part,” the police said. “According to his own statements, he put on the handbrake and got out to observe the wildlife in the area with binoculars.” But suddenly the little all-terrain vehicle sprang into motion and rolled downhill.
“In the coming right turn, the abandoned vehicle drove straight ahead and fell about 40 feet,” police continued. The two occupants still in the vehicle were very lucky as a group of trees stopped their further fall.
“The 62-year-old and the 31-year-old son were able to free themselves, but had to be rescued by the C7 helicopter with a rope and flown into the valley,” it says. The woman suffered serious injuries to her left forearm in the accident, the two men were unharmed.
While the injured person was being taken to the BKH Lienz, the Prägraten volunteer fire brigade began recovering the vehicle. In addition to two police patrols and the fire brigade, the Prägraten mountain rescue service and the crew of the C7 emergency medical helicopter were also involved in the operation.
