Day three after the devastating gas explosion in Ansfelden: The 150 residents of the affected settlement are still not allowed to return to their homes – the official ban on places has been extended. Experts are currently back on site to measure the gas pollution.
OMV experts sealed the borehole through which the gas leaked underground with liquid cement on Wednesday. This work was successfully completed late in the evening, as Mayor Christian Partoll confirmed when asked.
Settlement still restricted area
Employees of Netz OÖ, Linz AG and firefighters are currently checking the current gas values. “They go house by house and room by room,” the mayor explains. Also in the affected settlement, the electricity is no longer switched on because the situation is still unclear.
Cancel no earlier than Thursday
At the same time, all residents will be contacted and informed about the next steps. A withdrawal to the settlement would not be possible until Thursday afternoon at the earliest, but it is not yet possible to estimate what will happen next for the owners of the homes in the immediate vicinity of the borehole.
Elderly housed in a home
21 elderly residents were temporarily accommodated in care and support center Neuhofen. The evacuees’ pets have also been thought of – they can get information from the animal rescue hotline specially set up at Ansfelden town hall.
