Since 2019, a citizens’ initiative has been fighting against a planned rubbish dump at Breitensee. After an appeal against the positive decision, it now went to the court in St. Pölten. About 60 citizens started a long journey from Marchfeld, the negotiations took no less than twelve (!) hours.
There are many dangers that lead the “BUM” (Breitensee and Marchfeld citizens’ initiative) to the meeting. The increased truck traffic, which would mainly affect the neighboring town of Groissenbrunn, is the lesser of the evil here, as chairman Nikica Grubesic points out. The storage of hazardous substances is particularly feared: as an example, BUM chairman Grubesic cites chromium, which is used as waste material from blast furnace slag.
