Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has now commented on the Wagner group uprising in Russia. The lightning uprising was made possible by the massive presence of the Russian army in Ukraine. As a result, the army could spend less time in the barracks at home.
“Putin is not in control of the security situation,” the Ukrainian president said. “We all know that his (Putin’s) entire army is in Ukraine, almost all of the army is there. That’s why it was so easy for Wagner’s troops to march across Russia. Who could have stopped them?” The uprising has shown that Putin is not in control. The system in which everything is subservient to the Kremlin is falling apart.
The Kremlin boss’s response to the Wagner group’s uprising about a week ago was “weak”. On the other hand, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Monday that the uprising had had no effect. The forces at the front continued to do their job, the enemy “had not reached its target in any direction of attack (see video above)”.
About ten days ago, Prigoshin had his private army Wagner occupy the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and sent a military column towards Moscow. He justified this with an attack by Russian troops, allegedly ordered by Shoigu, on a Wagner military camp.
Assassination attempt on boss Krim?
At the beginning of the week, Crimea was the center of attention. According to the Russian side, an assassination attempt on the head of the peninsula, Sergei Aksyonov, was thwarted. Russia’s domestic intelligence agency FSB said it had arrested a Russian hired and trained by Ukrainian intelligence agencies to kill Aksyonov with a car bomb. “The bomber did not have time to carry out his criminal plan, because he was caught at the moment when he took the explosive from a hiding place,” the FSB said.
The opponent of the war has not yet responded to the allegations. The peninsula in southern Ukraine serves as an important logistical base for the Russian armed forces. It is therefore repeatedly the target of Ukrainian attacks. On Monday, the Russian occupiers reported repairing the damaged bridge at Chonhar. On June 22, two bridges across Lake Syvash were damaged by several Ukrainian missiles. According to local information, the bridge at Chonhar could not be used for weeks.
