Near Valencia (Spain), the special forces stormed a huge hemp plantation and handcuffed a red-white-red duo while they were “working in the garden”.
Spectacular police strike by the Guardia Civil in the Spanish town of La Safor, some 80 kilometers south of Valencia, which made headlines: After extensive preliminary investigations by the drug detectives, the special unit recently left as part of a commando operation for the directional address in an old industrial district in the city center.
In the crosshairs of the heavily armed officials: a cannabis plantation “on a larger scale”. After the emergency services forced their way into the property with a battering ram, they stormed room by room – and were initially unable to discover anything out of the ordinary.
Entrance “nursery” hidden with meter cupboard
It wasn’t until they pushed aside a closet in the back room that the narcotics investigators’ clues were confirmed: the hidden door led to a giant high-tech indoor marijuana plantation. Almost 5000 cannabis plants grew and flourished here on 600 square meters.
Well looked after by two Austrians with “green thumbs” who were gardening at the time of entry. On site, the two suspects (aged 60 and 24) were handcuffed and taken to jail. According to the judiciary, the duo should have been responsible for the care of the plants and the maintenance of the facility.
High-tech equipment for 120,000 euros
And the two Austrians had their hands full with that. In addition to the “care” of about 5,000 cannabis plants (total net weight 300 kilos), the “gardeners” were also responsible for high-tech equipment (air conditioning, humidifiers, lamps, etc.) with a total value of more than 120,000 euros.
The necessary electricity and water were illegally, albeit very professionally, tapped from the public power grid. The two suspects were immediately taken into custody with no possibility of bail. The detectives are now trying to get through to the 60-year-old and the 24-year-old to their ’employer’ or the supporters of the drug gang.
