Next “surge” – activists spray paint Hyatt hotel

Date:

Many Viennese and also commuters wonder every day: where will they stay and protest? We are talking about the last generation climate activists in Austria. After a short breather in June, the next “cloud wave” has been in the starting blocks since Monday. On Tuesday, however, nothing was glued. Instead, they spray painted the Hyatt Hotel in Vienna’s first district with orange paint.

In their previously announced three-week “May wave”, they blocked the streets of Vienna during the week, causing many traffic jams and heated tempers. The next wave of adhesives, which started on July 10, has now been announced in advance. This time, however, there is no end in sight. With a few breaks in between, the protests are expected to continue for several weeks.

Demonstration of Hyatt Hotel
In addition to the announced tape actions, sit-in strikes and marches, there will also be some surprise actions this time. “It will be intense, we will also use creative forms of protest,” activist spokesman David Sonnenbaum announced. So also today – the activists walked past the Hyatt Hotel and made it rain at the same time. Apparently there was no property damage to the hotel. They also took a seat in front of the hotel with banners that read “We can no longer afford the richest”.

166 arrests in May
Although other cities, such as Linz and Graz, protest and stick as much as possible, the hotspot remains in the capital. In May alone, 166 arrests were made during meetings. It remains to be seen how many arrests there will be this time.
