A “mysterious unidentified” dome that washed up on a beach in Western Australia caused some commotion this weekend. The huge metal object was discovered by locals on Green Head Beach, about 250 kilometers north of the metropolis of Perth.
A local resident found the metal cylinder on a remote beach on Sunday evening (local time) and dragged it to shore. Police initially classified him as dangerous and placed him under guard, according to the BBC Australia website. According to residents of Green Head, the cylinder was about eight feet wide and between eight and ten feet long, public broadcaster ABC reported.
A police statement said on Monday evening (local time) that an investigation by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Chemistry Center of Western Australia in Perth found that the property was safe and that there was no danger to the public.
“We want to reassure the community that we are actively working with various state and federal agencies to determine the provenance and nature of the object,” Australian Police said in a press release.
Possibly a fuel tank
Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas told BBC Australia the object may be a fuel trap from a rocket that was supposed to crash into the Indian Ocean sometime in the past 12 months.
Dropped by “Alien Launcher”.
Australia’s space agency, the Australian Space Agency (ASA), agrees with this view. It is possible that the huge cylinder fell from an “alien launch vehicle”. Other space agencies have already been contacted, she wrote on her Twitter account (see tweet above). “We are currently investigating this property.”
