Power failure after wind gusts in South Burgenland: Several large-scale actions for the fire brigade with good results.
Severe storms caused a lot of damage in the Güssing district on Sunday afternoon. Suddenly, out of nowhere, heavy storms raged across the land in the south of Burgenland. “I’ve never experienced anything like this with this intensity,” says an affected farmer. Trees and power poles were downed in some communities. Roofs of houses were damaged.
About 100 of the 250 transformer substations were without power in the afternoon, and Energie Burgenland immediately started the repair work, eventually repairing it in the early evening hours.
“A force of nature!”
In Limbach, a district of Kukmirn, trees fell on a goods road and blocked the road. The storm also swept through the Rauchwart area – tennis courts were affected, as were municipal roads. Even a mobile toilet was ripped from its anchorage by the storm and thrown onto the road.
“A force of nature! I have been working in the fire service for more than 20 years, but I have never encountered anything comparable to this intensity,” says a Floriani about his assignment. In total, more than 25 volunteer fire brigades were deployed in the south of Burgenland on Monday. They removed trees from the streets and pumped out the cellars.
