Success for the Styrian police: a van stolen in Bavaria was located in Graz using GPS and the thief, a Hungarian, was arrested. However, the arrest did not go without resistance.
At around 9:20 p.m., the state control of the Styrian state police headquarters became aware of a search for a stolen van in Bavaria. The stolen vehicle was fitted with a GPS tracker so that the city of Graz could be identified as the van’s approximate whereabouts.
Successful manhunt
After a short search, officers of the police command of the city of Graz were able to locate the small German truck in the Karlauer Belt/Lazarett Belt area. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated south on Triester Strasse and tried to avoid being pulled over.
Driver arrested
At the height of the central cemetery, officials finally managed to safely steer the van to the side of the road. However, the driver again tried to avoid being pulled over and touched the service vehicle. Shortly afterwards, the suspect, a 22-year-old Hungarian, was arrested by the police.
“Thanks to the professional conduct of law enforcement officers, all those involved were unharmed,” the police said. However, the vehicles were damaged to an extent unknown at this time. Investigations are currently underway into the man’s possible other crimes.
