A bear has wreaked havoc at Dubai airport. The predator was due to be taken to Iraq and had escaped from its cage in the cargo hold of an airplane. The bear was finally stunned.
A bear caused a delay at Dubai Airport on Friday. The bear was supposed to be transported from Baghdad to Dubai, but escaped from its crate in the hold. The affected airline, Iraqi Airways, apologized for the delay after the video was shared on social media.
Airline: Animal welfare guidelines adhered to
The bear had to be removed from the plane by special forces, the airline said. “The company apologizes to the passengers on the flight from Baghdad International Airport to Dubai Airport for reasons beyond the company’s control,” the company said. “The delay was due to cargo in the hold,” the statement said. The airline added that the animal was being transported in accordance with international animal welfare guidelines.
The flight crew coordinated with the United Arab Emirates authority, which sent a special team to sedate the animal and remove it from the plane. “After we checked the plane and made sure there was no damage from this incident, the plane returned to Baghdad,” the airline said.
Reasons for animal transport unknown
The company did not disclose why the bear was being transported to the United Arab Emirates, nor did it provide any information about its well-being after it was sedated and removed from the plane.
