After a near break-in, the police fired warning shots during a chase

Date:

A man tried to break into a store in Vienna-Leopoldstadt on Friday evening. After failing to do so, he fled. A spectacular police chase, including warning shots, then began to convince the suspect to pull over.

Observant witnesses saw the 20-year-old almost break into a store. The man damaged the window with a concrete umbrella stand and hit it several times with his fists. The suspect also allegedly injured his hand. Then he looked away.

Police chasing near-burglars
The officers were able to locate the man near the Große Mohrengasse thanks to the man’s blood trail and an immediate search. The man continued to run despite repeated attempts to stop him. The officials therefore had no choice but to fire three warning shots into the ground.

This stopped the near-burglar and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary. The suspect received emergency medical care from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and was taken to a hospital. He is currently still in police custody.
