Tractor stopped – dozens of people crammed into vans

Date:

Two smugglers who wanted to bring a total of 43 Turks to Germany have been stopped by the police at the German-Austrian border in recent days. The smugglers were arrested and the authorities are now looking after the illegals.

The German federal police has tightened controls in the German-Austrian border area since Monday. As reported, a permanent checkpoint has been set up in Bavaria – vehicles with foreign registration plates in particular are checked there more closely. The reason for this is the strong increase in the number of illegal entrants and unscrupulous people smugglers. The officials were able to apprehend and arrest a smuggler on the first day.

Illegal entry
And the checks also showed their effect in the following days. German police officers arrested a nine-seater in Burghausen on Wednesday. In addition to the driver, there were 17 Turks in the minivan who wanted to enter Germany illegally. The driver and the driver of a car accompanying him were arrested. The German officials are taking care of part of the group, the rest of the people have been handed over to the Austrian authorities.

Investigation against the smugglers
Just a day later, law enforcement officers were summoned again. 26 people of Turkish nationality were crammed into a van. The three suspected smugglers – two Slovaks and one Georgian – are under investigation for smuggling in foreigners under circumstances that endanger their health or life.
