Lviv: A transgender soldier is attacked and beaten by a man. She manages to videotape everything and publish the racket. In Ukraine, the story of the courageous Helen went viral.
As the Instagram channel “KyivPride” reports, Helen was in Lviv for her mother’s funeral in the third week of August. Special leave because of a death – as if that wasn’t enough for the soldier who has been fighting the Russian invasion for three years at the front.
“Are you an asshole?”
In the city center she is on a video call with her boyfriend, but suddenly she is approached in an extremely aggressive manner by a strange man. When Helen asks him to leave, he slaps her across the face. Right on the nose – and replies, “Are you a fagot?”
She is beaten again and even kicked in the face. The soldier manages to videotape part of the attack, filming herself and her injuries. She also puts a witness video online from a different perspective.
Helen had to file a complaint against an unknown person. She hoped the clips would give her clues about the attacker from the public. After much feedback, she switched her social media profiles such as Instagram and TikTok to private – presumably there were also hate messages.
KyivPride on the attack: “We await further developments and ask the police to respond with dignity to this horrific incident. Helen has now been in service for three years and we hope that Ukraine will provide the defender of our country with sufficient protection.”
