After Mitch McConnell’s second bust at a press conference within a month (see video above), concern for the Republican US senator is growing. However, the 81-year-old’s doctor calms him down and confirms after examination that he is still fit for duty.
“Following yesterday’s review of the incident, I (…) have informed McConnell that he is medically fit to continue his program as planned,” Brian Monahan said in a letter released Thursday by the office of McConnell. “Occasional dizziness is not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also occur due to dehydration,” the doctor explained.
The Republican Minority Leader in the Senate suddenly froze for the second time in several weeks during a press conference in Kentucky on Wednesday. “Did you hear the question, Senator?” asked an employee after the drop-out. When the 81-year-old did not respond, she told the audience: “I’m sorry (…). We need one more minute.”
Important Republican figure
In March, McConnell was hospitalized after falling during a private dinner. The fall resulted in a concussion and a broken rib. McConnell has been the leading Republican in the Senate since 2007 and served as Majority Leader in the Senate from 2015 to 2021. In this position, he blocked many bills from the Democratic administration under President Barack Obama and strengthened his successor Donald Trump after taking office.
