In Rittersdorf in the municipality of Irschen (Carinthia), a farm burned down on Friday afternoon. Incredible but true: all 25 pigs survived the fire unscathed.
For unknown reasons, the stable and the feed storage on the top floor caught fire. The approximately 500 stored hay and straw bales created a lot of heat and smoke in the building. A firefighter who lives nearby accidentally noticed the fire and raised the alarm in time.
All animals survived
On the ground floor of the farm there were 25 pigs that, as no one expected, survived the fire unscathed. Manfred Filzmaier, commander of the Rittersdorf fire brigade: “There was not much hope that the pigs would have survived, but suddenly the farmer came and said he could still hear something and immediately all the pigs were still alive and able to come out of their boxes be brought to safety!”
