Tyrol will be the first state to introduce a right to childcare, LH Anton Mattle has announced. On Friday, a Tyrolean delegation got an idea of childcare in model country Finland. The “crown” was also there. The trip brought surprising insights.
In the daycare center “Meri” – in German – in a district of Helsinki, a three-year-old asks if mom is coming now. But she doesn’t recognize anyone among the many adults at the entrance. The strangers are guests from Tyrol. They came to Finland to get an idea of childcare and education in the model state. LH Mattle and State Councilor for Education Hagele (both ÖVP) lead the delegation, including the social partners. During three days you will hear a lot about support for young children. This includes the fact that children in Finland from the age of one are entitled to a childcare place. Tyrol wants to gradually build up this right from 2024 for children aged two years and older.
