Happy ending! A four-legged friend fled the US, leaving behind a desperately sad family. Now they are reunited again.
The Crandall family from the city of Glendale in the American state of Arizona, with a population of 250,000, can hardly believe their luck: their dog “Minion” is back home after twelve years! The Bichon Frize breed dog had escaped through an open garden door just twelve years ago. All searches were in vain and the grief for the missing animal family member was indescribably great.
Family recognized again
Last week, “Minion” was captured as a stray about 25 miles from the Crandalls’ property and taken to the Maricopa County Animal Shelter. There, employee Alyssa Sanford discovered his chip and the family was notified. The four-legged friend recognized her and wagged its tail wildly.
Salzburg dog trainer Martin Erhatt in an interview with “Krone”: “It depends on the breed, but dogs have an episodic and declarative memory. They remember smells incredibly well, just like we humans do with images. It could very well be that he has rediscovered his family.”
