A 79-year-old wandering exhausted through the mountain – and five people who refuse to help him. According to the senior, this happened on the Zwieselalm in the Salzkammergut. An attentive farmer eventually offered help.
The 79-year-old from Edt near Lambach took the Gosaukamm cable car to the Zwieselalm together with his wife (76) on Monday. The couple first took a walk there together. Then the man wanted to walk alone. The two agreed to meet in a cabin. However, the 79-year-old got lost during his solo hike to the Törleck.
79-year-old asked other hikers for help
He knew his wife’s cell phone number, but did not have a cell phone with him. So he did the obvious: he asked other hikers to lend him their cell phones. But one said no, one didn’t understand him, two ignored him and one allegedly said he had a new cell phone that he didn’t want to give away. At least that’s what the 79-year-old said later.
Woman starts search
Because her husband did not show up at the agreed meeting place, his wife raised the alarm and launched a major search. The farmer noticed this too: he heard the police helicopter ‘Dragonfly’ circling around the mountain.
Hypothermia but unharmed
When the observant farmer spotted the 79-year-old wandering around, he put two and two together. The helpful man had the presence of mind to call mountain rescue. This allowed the exhausted pensioner to be located. He was picked up by helicopter, slightly hypothermic but unharmed, and flown back to Lake Gosausee.
