In many parts of Europe, the HTL Karlstein is known as a training center in the field of watch technology. Austria’s only technical and vocational school is also located there. However, the Waldviertel location is struggling with a huge student shortage, which must eliminate attractive new forms of education. The new plans for the double anniversary.
In the corridors of HTL Karlstein an der Thaya, a multi-toned tapping sound echoes through the corridors. Clocks of all kinds adorn the walls and are the center of attention for about a third of the 150 students. The HTL in the northern Waldviertel is the only technical and vocational school in Austria where the profession of watchmaking can be learned – and has been for 150 years. The unique Austrian training center not only adheres to traditional craftsmanship, but also wants to expand its educational offering in the future with an emphasis on sustainable technologies.
