After the knife attack on Friday on Sterneckstrasse in the city of Salzburg, it is now clear why the 52-year-old Somali man wounded his 43-year-old wife several times with a knife: he was jealous. But the police revealed another explosive detail during the investigation: his wife was traveling with two of the nine children (one and three years old).
The two children had to witness their father’s actions. As reported, the man attacked his wife with a knife on the street on Friday morning. He injured her life-threateningly. Something worse was prevented through the intervention of a 49-year-old woman from Salzburg.
The witness and police officers provided first aid until emergency services arrived. The victim is out of danger. The nine children between the ages of one and eighteen that they shared were cared for by the Red Cross crisis intervention team and then transferred to the care of child and youth welfare. The two small children were unharmed.
The perpetrator is in custody. The man is being investigated for attempted murder.
