In solidarity with the Israeli people, an Israeli flag was raised in front of the old town hall in Linz – on Thursday evening it was cut into pieces by unknown people. The SP mayor of Linz, Klaus Luger, is appalled by the politically motivated vandalism.
“As mayor, I condemn this act of politically motivated vandalism in the strongest possible terms. The city of Linz, which has held the title of City of Peace since 1986, firmly rejects terrorism and support for it,” Mayor Luger said in response to the incident.
Flag hoisted again
The city of Linz immediately reported the matter to the police after it became known and has also purchased another flag of the State of Israel so that it can fly again.
The mayor continued: “By raising the Israeli flag, Linz shows solidarity with the Israeli people affected by Hamas’s terrorist attacks. Linz is a city of diversity, free expression and peaceful coexistence, where political discussions take place at an objective level. Vandalism, vandalism and violence against people or state symbols have no place here!”
