The first young animals were spotted this week in the stork town of Rust (Burgenland). Even before the fire brigade there was already a first use of animals. One of the chicks had to be freed.
According to the chairman of the stork association, Josef Karassowitsch, the first young storks can already be seen in Rust. It is still unclear how many there are, but with 21 pairs of storks there are almost as many as last year. In 2021, a total of 42 chicks hatched.
Use for the fire brigade
On Wednesday afternoon, Eisenstadt fire brigade volunteers had to go to Rust to rescue one of the young animals. Passers-by had reported that a stork chick had fallen from its nest into a gutter and was unable to free itself.
Together with comrades from Seestadt, the Florianis arrived with a telescopic mast platform. So that the graceful baby stork could be gently rescued. Since the chick was apparently pushed out of the nest by the mother, it was taken to a breeding station.
