Russians on the rise? – Ukraine: “Enemy preparing for offensive”

Date:

According to Ukraine’s assessments, Moscow is trying to regain the upper hand in the war in the northeast of the country – an attempt is expected to break the Ukrainian defense lines. Meanwhile, Ukraine says it has successfully attacked Russian bases in the east.

The forces attacked enemy airfields and helicopters near the occupied cities of Luhansk and Berdyansk, the army said via Telegram. Ukrainian missile attacks were repulsed near the port city of Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov, the Russian-appointed governor in the occupied parts of the southeastern Zaporizhia region, Vladimir Rogov, said.

Are the Russians planning new advances?
According to Ukrainian sources, Russia is trying to break through Ukrainian defenses in the northeastern Kupiansk-Lyman region. “The enemy is preparing, he is seriously preparing for offensive actions and gathering troops,” Ground Forces Commander General Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a video on the messaging app Telegram.

“The main goal is to break through the defenses of our forces and retake our territory.”

Russia confirms “intense activities”
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirms intensive military activity in the region. Russian troops repelled 10 Ukrainian attacks in the Kupiansk region and two more in neighboring Lyman.

The recapture of the towns of Kupiansk and Lyman near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, last year was a major attempt by the Ukrainian army to drive Russian forces out of the Donbass.
