Waited for months – pain patient turned away on the day of surgery

Date:

A person with osteoarthritis waited eight months for treatment at UKH Salzburg. Almost in the operating room, she was sent home again. Because of her pain, she now hopes for help at the Braunau hospital.

“You don’t treat patients like that. My finger has been twisting for months due to arthritis. Ultimately, he would have undergone surgery,” says Barbara Reschreiter. However, the pain lasts longer for the Salzburg woman. She criticizes Salzburg’s health policy: “The hospital system is being destroyed. “Moreover, as an ÖGK insured person you are brushed aside with lighthearted words and you do not undergo surgery for months,” she says angrily.

No time as an excuse
At the UKH Salzburg she was told that her illness “wasn’t that bad” when her procedure was spontaneously cancelled: on October 3, the day of the operation that had been planned since February. The tobacconist was told that many patients with fractures were brought in at night. So you don’t have time for it. The UKH Salzburg points out to the “Krone” that it is an acute hospital. Barbara Rereiter now hopes to go to the Braunau Hospital, where her hand will be examined on Friday.

In a report published on Wednesday, the Salzburg Court of Audit found no preference for special class patients. However, he criticizes the lack of transparency regarding waiting times for operations in public hospitals.
