In total, at least 2,360 children have died as a result of the incessant attacks over the past 18 days. The UN agency calls for an immediate ceasefire and sustainable and unhindered access to humanitarian aid.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported on Wednesday that more than 400 boys and girls die or are injured in the Gaza Strip every day as a result of Israeli bombing.
“Over the past 18 days, the Gaza Strip has witnessed a devastating toll among its children: 2360 dead and 5364 injured as a result of incessant attacks; This means that every day more than 400 children die or are injured,” said a UNICEF statement to the media.
“The killing and maiming of children, the kidnapping of children, attacks on hospitals and schools, and the denial of access to humanitarian organizations constitute serious violations of children’s rights”, said Adele Khodr, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa. “UNICEF appeals urgently all parties agree a truceallow humanitarian access and free all the hostages. Even wars have rules. “Citizens, especially children, must be protected and every effort must be made to protect them in all circumstances,” he added.
Because of all this, and in response to the “terrible” situation of children in the Gaza Strip, UNICEF is calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, opening all ports of entry into Gaza to allow the access of humanitarian aid, which emergency medical cases in Gaza are allowed to leave or receive critical healthcare services, and to respect and protect civilian infrastructure such as shelters and schools, and healthcare, electricity, water and sanitation facilities.
