No Christmas tree has come under as much scrutiny in recent years as the Christmas tree that adorns Vienna’s Town Hall Square during Advent. The trees of recent years have been mediocre or not at all convincing. This year “A beautiful, full tree” from South Tyrol was promised. The 28-meter-high fir arrived on Friday.
The spruce from the Rautal am Enneberg is approximately 115 years old. It was felled last Monday and placed in front of Vienna’s city hall on Friday morning. The lighting will follow on November 10.
Admittedly, at first glance, the sustainably grown spruce does not look particularly beautiful. So the tree is missing some branches at least on one side.
Thanks to the favorable location and the professional hand of the Viennese city gardeners, who carry out the cleaning, as every year, one or two cosmetic defects can – hopefully – be hidden…
