Italian rescuers recovered five bodies from a shipwreck near the Sicilian resort of Selinunte on Saturday.
There were also women and children on board the boat that left Tunisia three days ago. It overturned as people tried to get away not far from the beach and ended up stranded.
Coast Guard rescuers searched the area in wetsuits using a jet ski. Firefighters examined the shipwreck for clues.
Sky Italia showed footage of police officers carrying the bodies in body bags from the beach.
The search for further victims is still ongoing.
31 migrants who survived the accident were arrested.
