Activists from the Last Generation group defaced the facade of the government building with orange paint. They left the statement ‘Olaf is lying’ several times on a white wall.
They accuse incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz of not doing enough to combat the climate catastrophe.
According to a reporter from the dpa news agency, both uniformed police officers and civilian security forces intervened and sometimes used physical force against the activists, ‘Zeit’ reports. Some were temporarily detained to establish their identities.
“Climate lying chancellor”
According to police, a total of about seventy demonstrators gathered in front of the chancellery, many holding banners with the inscriptions “Olaf is lying” or “Climate Lying Chancellor.”
Chancellor Scholz claims that the government’s measures against the “climate catastrophe” are sufficient, the activists said in a statement. “This is a life-threatening lie.”
