Anti-Semitism – attack on the central cemetery: traces secured

Date:

After the arson at the Jewish part of the Vienna Central Cemetery on the night of All Saints’ Day, the investigation is in full swing. According to the police, the cemetery, like all Jewish institutions in Vienna, was monitored.

The perpetrator or perpetrators also spray-painted National Socialist symbols – a swastika and the words ‘Hitler’ – on the outside wall. Investigation is underway for arson, damage to property and violation of prohibition law.

The cemetery was guarded
In connection with this, charges have been filed against unknown persons. It is still unclear how the perpetrators ended up in the cemetery and in the front room of the hall.

Be that as it may, the affected part of the cemetery – like all other Jewish facilities – was kept under surveillance, although the police were not aware of details for tactical reasons.

Traces of evidence have been found in the burnt-out anteroom of the ceremony hall and are now being forensically examined, the police announced on Thursday.
