Bridgestone Manufacturing has informed the unions of its intention to propose an ERTE at the Basauri and Usansolo factories in Bizkaia, which employ almost 1,000 workers. in Burgos and in Puente de San Miguel in Cantabria“due to the expected decrease in orders.”
In a statement, he explained that this ERTE is proposed for these four factories as of December 2023 and also for 2024.
As indicated by the company, this Employment Regulations File is necessary because: “against excess stock” in warehouses and the “planned reduction of orders”, motivated by the “complex” current market situation and with the aim of “guaranteing the efficiency, competitiveness of the factories and their future.”
The company has indicated that this will be accredited and explained during the consultation period of this EERT. Bridgestone has shown it “maximum willingness for dialogue” to try to “achieve the most favorable resolution possible for all parties involved.”
Bridgestone announced in 2016 a €45 million investment in the Basauri factory to make it the most automated of the Japanese multinational tire manufacturer’s 171 factories. In 2017Bridgestone Hispania’s management team presented a Strategic Plan 2018-2022 in Brussels, which provided for an investment of 73 million euros in the said factory.
In 2012Japanese tire multinational Bridgestone achieved a net profit of 11,137 million euros in the first nine months, despite filing a contract termination file that affected 442 employees in the Spanish state, of which 216 in Bizkaia.
