A serious fraud crime recently occurred in Tyrol. A 71-year-old was tricked via the internet into registering on a trading platform to which he transferred a large sum of money. He was promised millions, but instead the Tyrolean has now lost his money.
The number of fraud cases is increasing – this is not news, but the amount in the case of a Tyrolean is still astonishing. Between April and May 2023, unknown perpetrators managed to trick the 71-year-old from the Kitzbühel district into registering on a trading platform.
That was of course not allowed to remain that way: through several confidence-building conversations, the man was persuaded to deposit a seven-figure sum (euro) according to the police.
Skillful deception and manipulation
The victim received further tips and recommendations, which prompted the man to transfer even more money. Apparently he made millions of dollars in profits, so the 71-year-old demanded a payout. What did not happen, on the contrary: through clever deception he was once again tricked into depositing a six-figure sum. As the payment continued to fail, he eventually filed a complaint.
